Last month, the delivery boys stopped off to refuel at the White Hart pub in Shefford. After a gruelling 9 hours of delivery some hearty pub food was the order of the day.
We were warmly welcomed by Carol, our friendly barmaid and waitress, and she asked us where we would like to sit. There are plenty of seating options for diners, either at the back of the pub, alongside the bar or in the sophisticated lounge area which has big comfy sofas. We chose one of the window tables which was perfectly positioned to observe the happenings and goings-on in Shefford town centre. It has to be said, there’s nothing more enjoyable than ‘people watching’ after a long day on your feet, the White Hart is ideal for this.
The pub recently launched their brand new menus, with a Garden/Light Bite Menu served Monday - Saturday, and a Main Menu served 12-3pm and 6-9pm Tuesday - Saturday. For dinner, John ordered one of the Bloomfield Burgers, interestingly called ‘The Drunken Father’ - an 8oz beefburger, hand pressed with sea salt and fresh pepper served in a brioche bun, topped with chilli beef and cheese. Verdict: absolutely delicious, John, racking his brain trying to remember eating a more mouth-watering burger. Tasty, succulent, homemade heaven and nice french fries too. If you haven’t tried one of their burgers yet then it is well worth heading over and giving them a go.
Andrew ordered the Ploughman’s, which arrived very well presented with copious chunks of mature cheddar, toasted slices of baguette, mixed salad, large pickled onions, green olives and generous helpings of pickle. Perfect! For pudding we both enjoyed a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream chosen from the daily dessert menu.
We also got to meet Shanna, the landlady at the White Hart, who is lovely and friendly and very passionate about the running of the pub which she took on after it was completely renovated towards the end of last year. It now has stylish, contemporary decor whilst maintaining a country pub feel.
